Birney Butler PTA is a unique PTA chartered by Georgia PTA. Named after two PTA founders, Alice McLellan Birney and Selena Sloan Butler, this local unit expands the access of PTA membership to those who may have little or no contact with a local PTA. Members will meet to conduct their annual meeting and elect officers to fill vacancies.
Prior to the first General Session, review and discuss proposed bylaws amendments and resolutions coming before the general assembly for vote.
Local units will meet with their district director to discuss upcoming events, receive important information, and helpful hints on how to make your PTA experience successful and enjoyable. Attendance is strongly encouraged.
Business of the association occurs during general sessions. Your vote, voice, and involvement is essential in establishing the direction and priorities of Georgia PTA. It is the responsibility of each delegate to attend all general sessions. Sessions also include motivating speakers, student entertainers, and award presentations.
Delegates must present their current PTA membership card at registration and the local unit represented must be in good standing in order to receive a voting card. Voting cards are non-transferable and non replaceable. General Sessions are open to everyone whether a voting or non voting delegate.
Article XIX: State Convention, Section 5 "One hundred (100) voting members present at any regular convention, representing a majority of the districts, shall constitute a quorum." Quorum is established in the first general session and remains in effect throughout the convention.
The business of Georgia PTA is conducted throughout convention. In order to vote, delegates must present their membership card at registration to receive a voting card. NO MEMBERSHIP CARD, NO VOTING CARD. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Voting Delegates — A delegate representing a local unit in good standing is eligible to vote at the Georgia State PTA Convention. Delegate must also present a current year PTA membership card.
A local unit in good standing is one that:
Each local unit in good standing shall be entitled to be represented at Convention of the Georgia PTA by its president and one (1) other officer, or their alternates, and one (1) delegate for every fifty (50) paid members recorded in the state office as of April 15, 2016.
Example: 1 (President) + 1 (Designee) + 4 (200 Members as of April 15) = Total of 6 Voting Delegates. Voting delegates will be issued a voting card at registration; these cards are non-transferable and not replaceable.
Council Delegates - Each council shall be entitled to be represented at the annual state convention by its president or an alternate officer and one (1) additional delegate or alternate for each ten (10) local units or major fraction thereof in council membership, the delegates and alternates to be elected by the executive committee or in open session.
Non-Voting Delegates - Non-voting delegates may attend all meetings and workshops but may not have the right to make motions, debate, vote or speak at a microphone. Any attendee that has not been designated as a voting delegate by the local unit PTA or council PTA and has not received voting delegate credentials is a non-voting delegate.
